Pressure Catches

Pressure catches are a type of cabinet hardware that allows a cabinet door to shut when force is applied, which is useful when the contents of the cabinet need to be protected.

How do pressure catches work?

Pressure catches have a mechanism that makes the latch close when pressure is applied. This mechanism can be one of many different designs, but broadly speaking there are two parts to the catch, which interlock to cause the door to stay shut. Sometimes the second part is a hole created in the cabinet for the catch to fit into when pressure is added.

Types of pressure catches

Pressure catches differ in the specific way that they work to close a cabinet door. The majority are push-to-close, but there are also pull-up and lift-and-turn mechanisms. Pressure catches can also have different dimensions for the latch body, and can be made of different materials. There are a number of ways that pressure catches can be affixed to the cabinet, such as by using self-adhesive material or by screwing them in.
