Typical Applications

A shim is a thin piece of material used to fill small gaps or spaces between objects or to make a surface flush or level. In industry parts of machines can get worn away or ground down over time resulting in loss of functionality. To reduce this wear and tear shims can be fitted between machinery components for adjustment or alignment and so improve the functionality and mechanical life of the machine.

These Steel Shims can be used for:

  • Precision adjustments and alignments in machinery

  • Tool and die set up

  • Machine repair and maintenance

  • Mounting of motor pumps and other machinery

  • Prototype work

FAQs

What are steel shims used for?

Shims have different thicknesses and are used for various jobs such as:

  • Provide a level surface

  • To fill gaps

  • Reduce clearance between two objects

  • Stainless steel shim stock is ideal for making spring clips, retainers and washers

How long will stainless steel last?

Stainless steel items will last a long time and average around 15-25 years. This is due to its resistance to corrosion and requiring little maintenance.
