MOXA Gateway, RS232/RS422/RS485 COM Port Type, Ethernet Media Interfaces - MGate 5109

This gateway converts serial fieldbus traffic to Ethernet for industrial automation, enabling integration of RS232, RS422 and RS485 devices into networked systems. It is intended for use on DIN-rail installations within process and factory environments where serial-to-Ethernet protocol translation is required.

Features and Benefits:

• Supports RS232 RS422 RS485 serial ports for versatile device connectivity
• Operates from 12 to 48V to suit common industrial power supplies
• Rated for 0°C to 60°C for deployment in typical plant conditions
• Accepts microSD cards with 32GB capacity for local data storage
• Meets EMI and environmental testing per IEC and EN standards for system robustness
• Certified for hazardous locations enabling installation in classified areas

Applications

• Suitable for converting Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP in control networks
• Ideal for linking legacy serial instruments to SCADA Ethernet backbones
• Used with remote I/O aggregators in manufacturing lines
• Can be used for serial device redirection in oil and gas hazardous zones

What power voltages can it accept for field installations?

It accepts nominal supply voltages in the 12 to 48V range, allowing connection to common DC distribution systems.

How is local logging handled for diagnostics or data retention?

Local logging is supported via a removable microSD card slot with a 32GB capacity for event and transaction storage.

Which environmental tests and standards have been applied to its design?

The product has been evaluated against multiple IEC and EN test regimes covering immunity, emissions and mechanical stress, Plus Telcordia SR332 test criteria.

Can it be installed in hazardous-area sites and what approvals support that?

It carries approvals that permit use in classified locations, including certificates relevant to ATEX, IECEx and Class I Division 2 environments.
