Honeywell 14CE Series Limit Switch, Roller Plunger Actuator, 5A Switching Current - 14CE2-3

This limit switch is a Compact mechanical device designed to detect positional changes and provide Rapid electrical signalling within industrial control systems. It uses a roller plunger actuator to translate mechanical motion into a snap-action output suitable for automation and safety interlock tasks. The unit is housed in a corrosion-resistant die-cast zinc enclosure with multiple ingress protection ratings, making it appropriate for environments where moisture ingress is a concern. It is intended for panel mounting and connects via a cable termination.

Features and Benefits:

• Snap-action contacts deliver Rapid state change and clear signal switching
• Single normally open and normally closed contacts allow flexible wiring
• Rated switching performance supports 250V AC at 5 A for common control circuits
• Mechanical endurance of 10,000,000 cycles reduces maintenance frequency
• Wide protection ratings provide robust resistance to water and dust
• Operating torque of 11.8 N·m ensures decisive actuation under load

Applications

• Suitable for conveyor end-of-travel detection in production lines
• Ideal for limit sensing on machine tool guards and interlocks
• Used with hydraulic or pneumatic actuators to confirm stroke completion
• Can be used for position feedback in packaging and material-handling systems
• Suitable for panel-mounted safety switch functions in control cabinets

What temperature range can it be expected to operate within?

It is specified for operation between 0 °C and a maximum of 70 °C, providing reliable performance in typical indoor and sheltered industrial settings.

How is the device mounted and connected electrically?

It is designed for panel mounting and uses a cable-style Terminal for electrical connection, simplifying integration into existing harnesses.

What materials are used for the enclosure and why does that matter?

The housing is die-cast zinc which offers mechanical strength and environmental resistance suitable for industrial installations.

How does the contact arrangement support control logic flexibility?

With one normally open and one normally closed contact in a snap-action configuration, it enables both make and break signalling for fail-safe or changeover functions.

Approvals

UL, CSA.

Warning

14CE limit switches are not emergency stop devices or safety devices. They must not be used in devices, applications and environments where injury can incur as a result of product failure.

Standards

IP Rating:
All models within the 14CE series meet IP65, IP66, IP67, IP68. This ensures that they are completely dust tight, offer protection against jets of water and can be immersed in water up to 3 m.

NEMA Rating:
Every 14CE limit switch also meets NEMA, 2, 3, 3R, 4, 6, 6P and 13 requirements.

Type 2: Allows for indoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide a degree of protection against foreign objects (such as falling dirt) and the ingress of water (light dripping or splashing).
Type 3: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain or snow). Enclosures that meet NEMA 3 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 3R: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures primarily provide ingress protection against water (such as rain, snow or sleet). Enclosures that meet NEMA 3 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 4: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain, snow or sleet alongside splashing water and hose directed water). Enclosures that meet NEMA 3 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 6: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from foreign objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as rain, snow or sleet alongside splashing water and hose directed water). Enclosures that meet NEMA 4 offer protection against ice forming externally.
Type 6P: Allows for indoor or outdoor use and provides a degree of protection against access to hazardous parts. The enclosures provide some protection from solid objects (such as falling dirt and windblown dust) and the ingress of water (such as hose directed water). Enclosures that meet the NEMA 6P requirement also offer protection against water when being submerged at a limited depth.
Type 13: Enclosures that meet Type 13 are suited to harsh environments. Enclosures can be used indoors and provide protection against access to hazardous parts. They offer protection against solid objects such as falling dirt, windblown dirt, fibres and lint. They provide a level of protection from dripping and splashing water and other liquids such as the splashing, seepage and spraying of oil and non-corrosive coolants.
