Fluke Cable Tracer, 2.5m Cable Detection Depth, 20h Battery Life - FLUKE 2042

This cable tracer is a handheld instrument for locating and tracing metallic conductors in walls, underground and building circuits. Supplied as a kit with a transmitter and receiver, it detects live and dead cables, identifies signal codes digitally and includes a built‑in lamp for low‑light working. The unit is engineered for use on final circuits, pipework and electrical underfloor heating to assist fault finding, breaker and fuse identification, and continuity tracing.

Features & Benefits

• 0–60 Hz low‑frequency transmitter for broad signal compatibility
• Tracing depth up to 2.5m for underground and enclosed cable detection
• Live circuit detection to 400V for working on powered installations
• CAT III 300V safety rating for enhanced site electrical protection
• Receiver LCD display and backlight for clear signal and voltage readouts
• Battery arrangement providing long battery life — 20 h for extended field use

**Applications**

• Suitable for tracing buried power and communications cables
• Ideal for locating interruptions in heating and underfloor circuits
• Used for identifying fuses and breakers on final circuits
• Can be used to trace metallic water and heating pipes
• Suitable for site inspection and maintenance in automation systems

What power sources does the kit use and how are they distributed?

The receiver operates from a single 9V battery while the transmitter uses six 1.5V cells, allowing separate replacement and prolonged transmitter operation.

How does the system distinguish multiple signals on site?

The transmitter emits a digitally coded signal and the receiver displays and decodes this code so different transmitters can be identified concurrently.

What environmental limits affect instrument operation?

Both units operate between 0 °C and 40 °C and may be stored between −20 °C and +60 °C with up to 80% relative humidity without condensation.

How is sensitivity managed when tracing in congested cable environments?

Sensitivity on the receiver can be switched between automatic and manual modes to isolate signals in dense cable networks.
