From RS Pro these are a pair of permanently Antistatic specially designed for use within a clean room or EPA environment preventing any electrostatic discharge (ESD) protecting sensitive electronic equipment from any damage. ESD Scissors are made from materials meaning they safely discharge any static electricity that may build up on the surface of the scissors especially important within a clean room environment preventing any contamination.

An ESD area is a designated area where static electricity is controlled under strict regulations. Within a defined ESD area all surfaces, people, and ESD sensitive devices are kept at the same electrical potential achieved by using only groundable material. Groundable materials are material with an electrical resistance normally of less than 10^9 ohms covering all surfaces containers and tools. All surfaces, products, and people are bonded to ground, which means connecting them with a resistance of less than 1 gigohm. Movable items (such as containers and tools) are bonded by virtue of standing on a bonded surface or being held by a bonded person. Everything that does not readily dissipate charge (an insulator), should be excluded from the EPA, except for when process essential, in which case Ionisation can be used.
